Why should someone hoot in a discussion about Raymond Carver’s minimalist writing

Jaipur Literature Festival 2021 has gone digital in an awesome manner.

The festival site is fabulously organized.. it is a pleasure to go thru – a shade better than Music Academy site during Dec 2020 Music Festival.

It is a delight to ‘wander and hang around’ at the patio and the pavilion – Front lawn, Darbari Hall, arcade… for participating in the scheduled literary sessions.

At Jaipur Literary Festival (JLF)2021 now going on –

a lovely discussion between Ranjit Hoskote and Anupama Raju (both poets; Ranjit is also an arts curator) on ‘Words, image and text’

Ranjit mentioned during the session that he was involved in a project to convert a stage play written by Girish Karnad to an opera along with Girish and the grossly underrated music director Vanraj Bhatia.

I tweeted to him-excellent session. Ranjit, Is there any possibility of the ‘stage play to opera’ project you were involved with Girish Karnad and Vanraj Bhatia reviving to see the light of the day?

He replied – Thank you so much for your response to the session! The ‘Agnivarsha’ opera project was taken forward with courage and zest by Rani Dey Burra, who wrote most of the libretto after my early work on it. But the funding needed to achieve it as a score and a performance is vast…

I wrote – sad to know.. on a different note, liked your recitation of the ‘1857’ poem and recalling meeting with Nissim Ezekiel at PEN office and on wearing the translator’s cap.I find after translating good writing, it is immensely difficult to come out of the spell of the original writer
